Founding Black Families of Crystal River, Florida

Black families in Crystal River have an incredible history, economic contribution, and impact to the foundation and formation of Citrus County, Florida.  As of late 2023, none of our history, nor contributions, have been documented in our official county historical archives, nor presented in a dignified manner.  

In 2023, the current Black Population of Citrus County is less than 3%;  it once was as high as 33%,  when the industries of phosphate, lumbar, turpentine, fishing, and farming were huge economic drivers for Citrus County.
